Big Beehive

Lake-Agnus-Tea-House

About This Project

We decided to take Cal’s parents up to the Big Bee Hive at Lake Louise. For us it was a stroll in the park. For a couple in their mid 60s it was Mt. Everest. They attacked it head on and fortunately for us they had one of the best days exploring of their life. We started the morning at Lake Louise and enjoyed a beautiful morning next to one of the world’s most picturesque lakes before we set up a steep, windy switchback to Mirror Lake. This is where we explained to Neil and Isobel where our final destination. It was fair to say that Isobel was far from impressed and did not think it was possible to get to the top of the Beehive. A couple of hours later and moments from sheer exhaustion we managed to perch ourselves on the edge of Big Beehive and have lunch while looking down on Lake Louise and Lake Agnus. All the effort put in to this extraordinary hike really makes the views all that more worth while. For those after a bit more adventure (like Amy and I) it’s worth heading further up to Devil’s Thumb for a view that really is out of this world.
